Catalogue Note
Accompanied by spare links, leather and Cartier presentation case. The period of the 1920’s and 30’s continues to fascinate people for its exceptional creativity and design and the models from this time have become immortal pieces. The birth of the Art Deco movement saw a revolution that embraced every aspect of design and culture. Strong geometric lines were a trend of the period and the iconic Tank model was born in 1917. Towards the end of the 1920’s there was an abundance of innovation in horology and it was in 1929 that Cartier launched the savonnette watch. Specially designed for polo players its smooth gold hinged cover protects the dial.
The present watch is an very rare example with sapphire cabochons to the corners of the case and an incredibly rare gold and leather bracelet with deployant clasp.
