There are some chips and rubbed areas to the gilding, revealing the white gesso, the red bowl and the wood underneath. There are some restorations to the gilding, especially to the feet. There are new pegs to the feet. The leaf has been restored with a new back fabric. There are some minor wears to the tapestry. The metal wires are oxidised.

Catalogue Note

This firescreen is close to the one with a rare embroidery and ornamentation inspired by Daniel Marot's designs probably from the collections of Frederic August III of Poland, Elector of Saxony (sale Sotheby's Paris, Une dynastie américaine en Europe. Collections E. Post Close et A. Post de Bekessy, 20 December 2017, lot 674). A 'Sr Charlier de Paris' was specialised in those embroideries and his name appeared regularly in the Inventaires des Meubles de la Couronne.
