Description

  • 4.9 cm, 1 7/8  in.
of circular form, the box and cover meticulously carved in varied levels of relief through the ochre-yellow lacquer to the cinnabar-red layer below with a large peony bloom surrounded by leaves naturalistically bending and curling, the interior lacquered black

Condition

The lacquer box and cover are in overall good condition. The yellow lacquer has been applied with a polish which is visible under UV light. There is very minor touch-up to the yellow lacquer at the inner rim. The red lacquer ground has possibly been worked at with a knife, and with some minor losses.
