- 17 cm, 6 3/4 in.
of rectangular form, supported on a curved foot, carved to the exterior through alternating layers of black and cinnabar lacquer with ruyi-shaped pommels, the metal hinged door with a lockplate and a drawer pull, the interior with four drawers of varying sizes, the interiors lacquered red, the base lacquered black, Japanese wood box
Condition
The chest is in general good condition overall, with minor chips consistent with age, and some lacquer lifting and re-lacquering particularly to the interior of the drawers. There are some shallow chips along the foot. There are general minor age cracks particularly along the sides, including one running the length of the right side (approx. 16 cm) and with a small bruise to the edge next to this crack. One of the square drawers with a surface scratch to the bottom interior (approx. 4 cm). The base of the top drawer restored. There are some minor dents, scratches and oxidization to the metal areas. One small metal bolt to the cover is loose and currently attached with tape.
