of mitered, mortise and tenon frame construction, the frame enclosing a mat seat, above a straight waist and simple apron, supported on legs of square section, joined by arched stretchers and terminating in hoof feet
Provenance
Collection of Gardner C. Carpenter (1913-1952), US Vice Consul in China during the 1940s. The stool was listed by the Consulate General on the 15th November 1948 inventory of personal items that Carpenter shipped back from China to California.
Condition
There's a few splits to the underside. A small infill to the inside of one leg, close to the joint with the stretcher meets, a further long infill to another leg. The stool has been cleaned and polished.
