carved around the exterior in lishu ('clerical script') with the poem Yangzhuji ('The Story of Growing Bamboo') by the famous Tang dynasty poet Bai Juyi
Condition
There are some light scratches to the sides and minute nicks (<0.1cm) to the rim. The base with some expected vertical age cracks.

Catalogue Note
Qian Yong (1759-1844), also known as Meihuaxi jushi (The Scholar of Prunus Stream), was a native of Jiangxu, the descendant of the famous Tang-dynasty warlord and the founder of the Wuyue kingdom, Qian Liu. Renowned for his calligraphy, he also produced stone carvings and tablets. His paintings and calligraphy are amongst the collections of worldwide institutions, including the Beijing Palace Museum and Indianapolis Museum of Art, Newfields. He was also the author of the notorious Lüyuan conghua (Collected Tales of Lüyuan) - compilation of notes from as early as the Six Dynasties to the Qing period covering a wide range of topics including politics, economics, agriculture, culture and society which was published in 1839.
