Description

  • 64 by 89.8 cm, 25 1/4  by 35 3/8  in., overall 74 by 99.2 cm, 29 1/8  by 39 in.
the rectangular panel ornately inlaid with intricately carved buffalo horn in various levels of relief, depicting a riverside landscape with two figures crossing a bridge, above a further figure steering a sampan boat in the river, set in a rocky mountainous landscape with cottages and huts sheltered amongst tall trees, accompanied with a jade-inlaid poetic inscription followed by two Qianlong seals, all reserved against a painted greenish-blue ground in the foreground simulating the river, gradating to a rich blue tone towards the upper part forming the sky, the wood frame set with an archaistic bronze double-phoenix handle

Condition

As visible in the catalogue photo, there is a stabilised horizontal age crack across the panel with associate losses. There are cracks, small losses and minor areas of replacement to the horn. Some of the horn inlays have been reinforced with pins.
