Condition

The canvas appears to be lined. Overall the painting retains good details with some thinness to the paint on the browns in the background. A horizontal line, possibly from an old fold, runs across the top of the canvas. Inspection under UV shows some scattered spots of retouching throughout the background, most noticeably on all four edges. There is also some finely applied retouches to the aforementioned line that runs across the top of the canvas. Scattered lines of retouching are throughout the dog with the most prominent on his body quite possibly to address old craquelure. A repair, which appears to have possibly addressed an old tear, is visible under UV at the center of the canvas right above the dog. The painting presents a strong image that could be hung in its current state. It is offered in a carved, gilded wood frame.
