Description
- Saint Mark in an interior setting with the Clock Tower of Venice seen through the window
- oil on panel, unframed
- 10 3/8 by 8 3/8 in.; 26.4 by 21.3 cm.
Condition
The panel is comprised of a single board that is cradled and flat. Painting presents a lovely image with details on the view through the window and on the architecture well preserved. Slight craquelure is visible, specifically on the clouds at left. Some faint cracks are on the top right corner. Some dots of pigment loss are scattered on the edges, but these are not distracting. A thin scratch of about a quarter of an inch is close to the top edge at right. Inspection under UV light is impeded due to a milky varnish, though a few very small scattered spots of retouches are on the bottom right edge, and the aforementioned cracks on the top right corner fluoresce. Older spots of retouches are scattered on the background sky and stone wall. The panel is offered unframed, but in a leather case with a velvet inner liner.
