Description

Set with an oval sapphire, within a surround of carved moonstone, bordered by millegrain-set rose diamonds, detachable brooch fitting partially signed Koch.

Condition

Accompanied by CISGEM report no. 8997, stating that the sapphire measuring approximately 13.50 x 17.60 x 9.25mm, weighing approximately 20.00 carats, shows no indications of heat treatment, and is suggested to be of Sri Lankan (Ceylon) origin. Brooch fitting possibly later, partially signed Koch on catch. Catch with traces of solder repair, possibly later. Sapphire light blue, transparent, with colour zoning visible to the naked eye and typical minor inclusions visible under magnification. Moonstone pale yellow, transparent, with blue to white adularescence, frosted surface. Sapphire and moonstone with some areas of minor chipping and wear to edges. Some sections of moonstone slightly loose in mount. Diamonds bright and lively. Scratches to metal and stone surfaces consistent with wear. In good condition. Measuring approximately 35 x 27mm. Gross weight approximately 17.4 grams.
