wearing a thick-soled female sandal with striated straps converging to an ivy-leaf ornament between the first and second toes, the nails and other details finely and sensitively carved

Provenance

Estate of Nicolas Feuillatte (1926-2014), the French Champagne producer, acquired in the 1960s.

Condition

The little toe is lost, there are some shallow flakes along the extremities elsewhere. There is a circular aperture to one end of the foot for attachment onto the sculpture which is usually carved separately.
