鐵是一種濃縮的地球礦物質,鋼與鐵十分相似,但更多應用於工業,六米長的鋼材可以有不同寬度截面:12、15、20、25、30、35、40、50、60及80毫米橫切面等。我在創作中使用鋼,因其堅硬、容易使用且不易變質。它稠密不變形,但同時又易與大氣發生反應而氧化,所以它既堅固又脆弱;人們可以將它打磨得熠熠發光,但若不去理會它也將回歸塵土。整個雕塑意在玩味合併與分離、部分與整體、熵的接受與抵抗準則。作品如《居》嘗試依據村莊、鄉鎮或城市來重建並禮讚身軀,將其塑造成能夠居住而脆弱的存在。在我們當今的工業時代,鋼比銅更加適用。我喜歡它的色澤,也喜歡它表面和截面全然不同的質感。我們把所有鋼塊固定在一起。我喜歡這種如同下棋一般的挑戰:鋼材要固定得十分緊密,整個作品才不會分崩離析,同時又必須給你留有足夠操作空間來翻轉鋼塊,這很難,但一旦做到就十分值得。身軀是細胞的集合體,而雕塑則是鋼塊的集合體,兩者的互相呼應,乃我一次又一次對空間及人體軀殼間的緊密關係的從新發掘所產生的回音。
