Catalogue Note
"Defined by the interplay between constellations of small facets and groupings of large floating planes, Gerzso’s abstraction aimed at constructing an evocative and enigmatic sense of depth. For Gerzso, recession was a poetic metaphor and… he created a language of layering. Layer upon layer magnetically draws the viewer across time and space to a distant focal point that is deep, dark, and hidden.” Diana C. Du Pont, “Gerzso: Pioneering the Abstract in Mexico » in Risking the Abstract: Mexican Modernism and the Art of Gunther Gerzso, Santa Barbara, 2003, p. 123
