Condition

This work is in very good condition overall. There is light evidence of handling along the edges including minor and unobtrusive paint loss at the extreme edges. The colors are bright, fresh and clean. Under very close inspection, a few localized areas of hairline craquelure are visible, most noticeably in the upper black painted areas, a few faint and unobtrusive surface abrasions are visible, notably in the sink basin, and a small circular white media accretion is visible along the right edge approximately 29-inches from the bottom. Also under very close inspection, scattered pinpoint spots of cardboard accretion are visible, in the white painted areas towards the bottom. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there is no evidence of restoration. Unframed.

Catalogue Note

"I decided to make pictures of fragments, images that would spill off the canvas instead of recede into it, like a medicine cabinet...I wanted to find images that were in a 'nether-nether-land,' things that were a little out of style but hadn't reached the point of nostalgia.''
James Rosenquist
