Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate. Condition: This work is in good condition. Close inspection reveals some faint rubmarks and a very fine pattern of craquelure to the white pigment in the lower register of the painting, one of which has a tiny speck of loss in the lower left hand corner. Further close inspection reveals a few fine cracks in scattered places and a small impact crack, some of which have minute specks of associated loss, in the black pigment to the centre of the composition and one to the bottom of the upper right hand white square, which looks to have been stabilised. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals a spot of inpainting to the white pigment in the lower left hand corner of the composition and two tiny specks of loss, which fluoresce lightly, to the white rectangles in the centre of the composition. Close inspection of the artist's frame reveals some wear, small nicks and some cracks in places, one crack has been stabilised and fluoresces lightly on the upper right edge of the frame.
