Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although it fails to fully convey the metallic quality of the head. Condition: This work is in very good condition. There are some faint superficial scratches in places and some light accumulation of dust in the recesses as well as some isolated spots of oxidation. Close inspection reveals some burnishing to the protruding elements.

Catalogue Note

“I’d already gone through the discipline of doing abstract work, because architecture is done abstractly. I’d done my exercises so I thought I’d go out into more, shall we say, organic work. It wasn’t meant to be figurative. It was more to do with the spirit of man and animal than with the actual physical being” (Lynn Chadwick cited in: Exh. Cat., London, Osborne Samuel, Lynn Chadwick, 2004, p. 22).
