Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate. Condition: This work is in very good condition. The sheet is attached to foambord on the reverse. The horizontal edges are deckled and there are three artist's pinholes along the upper edge. Extremely close inspection reveals a few tiny specks of paint in places and some faint and unobtrusive irregularities in isolated places. Further close inspection reveals there are two faint rub marks; one towards the centre of the right edge and another to the right edge, approximately 55 cm from the lower right corner.

Catalogue Note

“When words such as painting and sculpture are used, they connote a whole tradition and imply a consequent acceptance of this tradition, thus placing limitations on the artist who would be reluctant to make art that goes beyond the limitations” (Sol LeWitt cited in: Exh. Cat., New York City, Museum of Modern Art, Sol LeWitt, 1978, p. 168).
