Hinge mounted to a modern mount. The left and right edges are somewhat uneven and there are old repaired tears to the left half of the upper edge and the centre of the lower edge. The top left corner has also been repaired. The drawing itself remains in good condition with the combination of media fresh and vibrant throughout. Sold unframed.

Cette magnifique feuille, dessinée dans un superbe mélange de techniques, appartient à un petit groupe de dessins de Lagrenée le Jeune, que l’artiste exécuta vers 1782, pour préparer son Recueil de compositions par Lagrenée Le Jeune, constitué d’une série d'eaux-fortes à la manière de lavis d’après l’Antique.

Bien que le dessin de la collection Adrien ne soit pas préparatoire à une eau-forte de la série en particulier, il correspond parfaitement, tant stylistiquement que par son sujet, aux autres dessins de la même période. Il peut notamment être comparé à une rare feuille incontestablement liée au Recueil de compositions par Lagrenée Le Jeune, et désormais conservée au Staatliche Museen de Berlin¹.
