歷來研究大千先生潑彩技法的文章多如牛毛，此處不再贅述大千先生對中國傳統書畫所做的開創貢獻。此件《巻去青靄望水天》橫批創作於1968年，為張大千剛離開巴西移居加州時。尺幅巨大，潑色厚重。大量的石青、石綠匯聚於畫面右端，青綠下面還隱約可以看見濃墨托底，是以色彩較之後的青綠山水為厚重。畫面中間到左端一派雨過天晴的景色，遠方的高山還有淡淡的青靄籠罩，中景的山樹郁郁蔥蔥、瀑布水量充沛，近景的樓閣茅亭煥然一新、山坡草木華滋，皴法還帶有濃厚的巴西時期的山水風格。畫作左邊這種清新濕潤的感覺不僅與畫面右邊凝神厚重的潑彩產生強烈對比，更與右上角潑彩最濃重處的那一圈留白向呼應，正可以透過雲層交界處的縫隙看到遠方那一碧如洗的天空的一角。蘇軾有詩「烏雲翻墨未遮山，白雨跳珠亂入船。卷地風來忽吹散，望湖樓下水如天」，恰與整幅畫作暗合。或許大千先生在創作時也想到了這首詩吧。此件作品完成後不久便納入中國藝術中心收藏，從未公開展出或出版於任何刊物中，殊為難得。
