Condition
There is discolouration and staining on both pieces, especially along the seat. There are a few strips of plywood that are missing. Both stools appear to have been restored by a professional restorer and polished. Condition is commensurate with age and climatic conditions.

Catalogue Note
In 1958 I spent four months in Japan where I had the privilege of spending time with Professor Kenzō Tange, who also won the Pritzker in 1987, and Mr. Sori Yanagi. Yanagi, I thought was one of the most reserved artists and industrial designers. In his studio I was fascinated by his butterfly plywood stools. How graceful and simple they were. They remind us of the true essence of design. I purchased four stools and used them often.
