Arabic manuscript on paper, 2 lines in bold black thuluth script, margins with interlacing gold floral scrolls, set in a gilt-wood frame

Condition

In overall good condition, minor losses and smudges to the border, minor holes, the frames with chips, the calligraphy bold, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

A student of Muhammad Vasfi and Muhammad Rashid Ayyubi, Mustafa al-Hilmi was a calligrapher in Ottoman Turkey during the second half of the nineteenth century. A Qur'an copied by him and dated 1285 AH/1868 AD was sold at Christie's London, 20 October 2016, lot 184.
