de forme pansue, peinte en différentes variations de tons bleu cobalt de paons perchés sur des rochers et parmi les pivoines, entre deux frises de pétales stylisés, marque à six caractères en bleu sous couverte à la base dans un double cercle 

Condition

There is a ca. 0.7 x 0.9 cm large shallow chip to the rim that was reattached. The rim slightly worn, a ca. 2 cm large firing imperfection under the glaze on the foot There is overall light wear to the surface, and some minute imperfections to the glaze.

Catalogue Note

An identical jar in the British Museum is illustrated in Jessica Harrison-Hall, Ming Ceramics in the British Museum, London, 2001, pl. 9:48, and again in John Addis, Chinese Porcelain from the Addis Collection, London, 1979, no. 22 where the author relates the design to an a special commission by the Jiajing court. A similar example was sold in our London rooms, 9th December 1986, lot 212, and another in Sotheby's New York,13th September 2016, lot 274.
