Catalogue Note
The portrait of Willem Deurhoff (1650-1717) painted on this dish is based on an etching by the Dutch engraver Bernard Picart. Compare with a very similar, slightly larger dish, similarly painted with a portrait of Willem Deurhoff surrounded by the same biblical scenes, in the collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, illustrated in Christiaan J. A. Jörg, Chinese Ceramics in the Collection of the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. The Ming and Qing Dynasties, Amsterdam, 1997, p. 88, cat. no. 1122.
