Forme spécifique à l’archipel des Îles Fidji, la massue Sali est l’une des armes iconiques du corpus Polynésien. Si, à sa découverte par les Européens, elle fut nommée « crosse de fusil », son iconographie s’inspire en réalité de la forme d’un serpent à la gueule ouverte. Objets cérémoniels autant qu’armes de prestige, ces œuvres témoignent d’un soin remarquable. Cette massue s'affirme ainsi par la rare délicatesse du complexe décor géométrique gravé sur la poignée.
