Catalogue Note
Les objets d'Afrique australe reflètent le pastoralisme nomade des peuples, et l’importance du bétail dans leur culture. Celle-ci préside à l’élaboration de cette boîte à priser à double embouchure, avec sa forme évoquant un taureau et l’élément sommital sculpté dans la corne d’un bœuf rituellement sacrifié. Cet emblème appartenait très vraisemblablement à un chef ou à un roi puissant ; l’association du manche en bois et du réceptacle à priser, en corne, établissant un lien métaphorique entre la puissance de l'utilisateur et celle, spirituelle, du tabac et de son corollaire, les ancêtres.
