Description

  • Height 20.5 cm.; length 27 cm.
raised on her hind legs and avidly feeding on fruit from a krater or kantharos, the vessel with fluted neck and body decorated in relief with overlapping pointed leaves; legs and base of animal restored and repaired, tail formerly restored.

private collection, 18th Century (based on restoration techniques)
French private collection, Île-de-France, acquired in the 1970s (Lancry-Camper, Corbeil-Essonnes, December 2nd, 2017, no. 214)

Condition

As shown. Proper left rear paw, end of tail, and end part of base restored. Proper left rear leg and proper right rear leg and paw broken and repaired. Part of tail previously restored now missing. Area between foot and body of vase possibly repaired. Surface cleaned, with minor nicks and scratches overall.
