Catalogue Note

“In the year 2000, I purchased ten roles of expired black and white film from Studio Al Madani in Saida, South Lebanon. These films not only expired in 1976, but they were also poorly preserved…It is the ruinous condition of the films that interested me as a medium for my work. The outcome was always unpredictable and uncertain. The whole experiment lies in the idea that even I did not know the result before the images were printed. And when the images were printed, a blurry limit was created in what the spectator sees and what he believes.” Ziad Antar cited in: Aquila Style, Artist Spotlight: Ziad Antar from Lebanon, 2015
