Condition

The canvas has been lined. Some residues of brown paper are visible on the reverse of the canvas. There is one small spot of paint flaking in the lower right corner, also visible in the catalogue illustration. Some other minor, isolated spots are also visible in the lower half of the composition. However, the painting surface appears to be stable. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals strokes of retouching along the four framing edges (consistent with the relining) and one small spot of cosmetic retouching in the table top in the lower right quadrant. Otherwise, this work is in overall good condition and is ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame.

Catalogue Note

Having started his career in Poland, Kramsztyk spent time in Paris between 1910 and 1914 and finally settled there in 1922. As clearly visible in the present work, his art was deeply influenced by the work of Cézanne, emphasizing a certain sculptural voluminosity in his still lifes through the use of geometric shapes.
