Condition

The canvas has been lined. There is a pattern of hairline craquelure throughout - however this is only visible under raking light and upon close inspection. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals strokes of retouching along the right, lower and left framing edges and some other retouchings, including: - a circa 3 by 5cm area in the sky in the lower left quadrant; - clusters of retouching in the sea, notably in the lower left; and - some spots in the sky closer to the right edge. It should be noted some of the above mentioned retouchings have somewhat discoloured in time and, although not too distracting, are also visible to the naked eye. This work is in overall good condition and is ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame with a nameplate. Overall, colours are somewhat brighter in reality than in the catalogue illustration.
