Condition
The canvas has been lined. There is a pattern of raised craquelure throughout, as visible in the catalogue illustration. However, this appears to be stable. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals some intermittent strokes of cosmetic retouching along the four framing edges, addressing frame rubbing, and some fine lines of in-painting in the background in the right hand side of the composition. Some areas of fluorescence in the girl's face could be ascribed to residual varnish from selective cleaning. Overall, this work is in good condition and ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame with some losses.
