Literature

Paul Girard, Firmin-Girard, par son petit-fils, Orléans, 1988, p. 24, no. 62, catalogued; p. 56, illustrated

Condition

The canvas has not been lined and is securely attached to a keyed wooden stretcher. There is some minor frame rubbing along the extreme right framing edge, and one minor spot of flaking is visible in the right of the extreme upper framing edge, also visible in the catalogue illustration. Ultra-violet light reveals an even layer of varnish and one small spot of cosmetic retouching, possibly addressing old flaking, in the roof top to the centre of the upper edge. Otherwise, this work appears to be in virtually original condition and is ready to hang. Presented in a decorative gilt frame. Colours are somewhat less bright than in the catalogue illustration.
