Catalogue Note

This drawing appears to relate to the disguised figure of the goddess Minerva approaching the hero Perseus in the background of The Call of Perseus, one of the panels for the unfinished decorative scheme designed for the drawing-room of 4 Carlton Gardens, the home of the Conservative politician Arthur Balfour. In the painting Minerva faces in the opposite direction.
