Condition

Both sheets appears sound and not laid down, cockled slightly. Both have a vertical join mark down the centre, contemporary to the drawing. Both slightly discoloured with occasional spots of foxing. Held under glass in matching ebony frames with cream mounts; unexamined out of frames.

These are sketches for the three panels painted in 1873 by Tadema for the underside of the lid of a John Broadwood & Sons pianoforte which was in Tadema's possession until 1912.
