Description

  • Column and volute capital
  • Istrian stone, on a wood base
  • Italian, 16th century

Condition

The column and capital are architectural fragments, and thus there is weathering to the surface and surface abrasions throughout. The column and capital are probably associated. There are several losses, notably to the top and bottom edges of the column. There are further chips and losses to the edges and corners of the capital. There are some rectangular cavities to the column, probably for former mounts. There are several slightly open but stable veins to the stone, consistent with the material and placement outdoors.
