Description
- Porcelain
- the tray 30.7cm., 12 1/8 in. wide
finely painted with vignettes of birds in landscapes, comprising two cups and saucers, gobelet 'Hébert' et soucoupe, and an oval shaped tray, probably plateau déjeuner 'Hébert', the tray with a large scene of a cockerel escaping a cage, surrounded by five flying birds at the rim, gilt-dentil rims, interlaced LL marks in blue containing date letter G for 1760, painter's mark N for François-Joseph Aloncle (active as a painter of birds, animals and landscapes from 1758-81), the tray with incised BP mark attributed to répareur Baptiste Paris (active 1754-64), the saucers with incised numeral 3, the cups with numeral 2,
Condition
One cup is lacking a handle, and a shallow chip to underside edge of footrim of tray. Otherwise in generally good condition, very minor typical scattered surface scratching consistent with age.
The tray has traces of a firing flaw to painted scene.
