Literature
The gilt metal hair foliate slides that are a part of this group could possibly be those acquired by Sir John Stuart Forbes, 8th bt. (1804–1866) in 1834.
There is an extant bill dated 11 June 1834 from Francis James and Walter Marshall, Jewellers and Silversmiths, 41 George Street, Edinburgh, which details 'A pair of gilt hair slides £1-4-0' and 'A gilt head ornament £1-4-0', NLS (4796/196). Whilst is not possible to ascertain that these are indeed those hair slides, it seems a credible link.
The Edwardian gilt-tooled leather box that accompanies this group bares the initials C.H.S.F.T, probably those of Charles Henry Hepburn-Stuart-Forbes-Trefusis, 20th Baron Clinton (1834-1904)
