Description

  • diameter 55 mm
gilt full plate movement, verge escapement, decoratively pierced and engraved masked balance cock, diamond endstone, chain and fusee, square baluster pillars, signed And: Dickie, Edinburgh; white enamel dial, Roman numerals, outer arabic minute ring, blued steel beetle and poker hands; plain 18k gold inner case, winding square to the back, London hallmark for 1747; 18k gold outer case finely chased with a repoussé scene depicting the Judgement of Hercules within an asymmetric scrolling cartouche and foliate decoration; outer gilt metal shagreen covered case with pique work

Condition

Movement fully wound but not running, balance rotates when power is applied to the train. Dial and hands in good condition. Inner case with scuffs throughout and dents to the bad, consistent with age and wear, repousse case with scuffs and some rubbing to the figures and decoration, case not closing securely. Outer shagreen case with wear. Shagreen is not complete and has become detached in some areas, large areas lacking to the bezel.
