Catalogue Note

"Six months have barely lapsed since the news of the tragic ending of the British Antarctic Expedition thrilled the world and elicited its sympathy and admiration for the endurance and self-sacrifice of Captain Scott and his brave comrades... It is therefore fair to claim for this Exhibition that it is not only unique of its kind, giving, as it does, a truthful and vivid insight into the manner in which a great Polar Expedition has been conducted, but is also a liberal contribution to the sum of human knowledge, and has a value both personal, historic, artistic, and scientific" (Prefatory Note). Unfortunately the exhibition was not a great success.
