Condition

The lower left corner is rounded on 1 mm, maybe due to wears. Under UV light, no repaint is visible. The painting is dirty and would benefit from a light cleaning. Perfection condition.

Catalogue Note

La composition que choisit Guigou est audaciause : les lavandières sont vues de dos, le plan est rapproché et le ciel, coupé. Ce beau tableau, peut-être un "portrait de métier", montre le désir constant du peintre de reproduire l'atmosphère du Sud : lumineuse, poussièreuse et chaude. Les couleurs vives de la composition traduisent cette ambiance.

La composition reprend la partie gauche de La Lavandière daté 1860 conservé au Musée d'Orsay, Paris.
