Catalogue Note

Bacon dedicated this work to Gordon House (1933-2004), a graphic designer who, while being closely connected to the post-war London art scene, also exhibited his own paintings and prints with the London Group in 1957 and at the 1960 Situation exhibition at the RBA galleries. A close friend of Sir Peter Blake, he worked on album designs for the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, but his regular clients were the London art trade, including the Eskenazi Gallery and Marlborough Fine Art.
