Literature
Edward Sackville-West, Graham Sutherland, Penguin, London, 1958, illustrated pl.16.
Condition
The sheet has been laid down on board. There are two collaged pieces of paper that have been adhered to the sheet along the left edge, and a further piece in the lower right corner, apparently by the artist. There are losses to the sheet in all but the lower right corner, not visible in the current mount. There are a few scuffs and tears to the edges of the sheet, including along the left edge, in the lower left corner, and along the left of the upper edge. There are a few small tears and scuffs elsewhere.
The pigments and the sheet have discoloured, as is made clear by the edges which are covered by the current mount. There are two creases running vertically near the right edge, and a scratch just to the left of these. There are a few scuffs to the central composition and one area of craquelure to the black ink. There are some spots of staining.
Held under glass in a gilt frame with a white mount.
