Sotheby's, Belgravia, 15 November 1977, lot 219, where purchased by the father of the present owners

Condition

The canvas has been lined. There are some areas of craquelure visible upon close inspection notably in the upper right hand quadrant. Otherwise the work appears to be in good condition and ready to hang. UV light inspection reveals infilling to old craquelure throughout the sky and also some areas of feathered retouching in the sky. Some further areas of minor retouching in the landscape in the left hand quadrant. Some very minor touches elsewhere. This retouching has been done sympathetically. Held in a gilt frame.
