Condition
There are two fine horizontal cracks running through the lower portion and upper edge of the board, the former is visible on the reverse. There is a further fine horizontal crack extending from the centre right hand edge approximately halfway through the board. There are some instances of fine craquelure notably in the lower left hand quadrant, this is only visible upon close inspection. Otherwise the work appears to be in good overall condition.
UV light inspection reveals retouching to the aforementioned cracks, this has been sensitively executed. There are one or two minor specks of retouching to the beach in the centre of the composition and to the lower right hand framing edge.
Held in a decorative gilded frame. Please note the work is framed under glass.

Catalogue Note
The small island of Iona lies close to Mull on the west coast of Scotland. The island boasted an inexhaustible supply of subject matter for the artist: innumerable coastal vistas across the ocean to the west, towards Mull and surrounding islands to the north and east; rocky dunes and machair; beaches with their distinctive rocky outcrops and pure white sands; clear shallow waters of turquoise and emerald green. From every direction a new artistic challenge presented itself close by, and from each of these perspectives, a hundred different pictures could be produced by the changing effects of light, weather and season on the landscape. First visited by Cadell in 1912, Iona became a rich source of material for the artist who returned year after year on summer painting excursions to the island.
