the bowl carved of nephrite, the cartouche-form handle cast with trellis pattern within rocaille scrolls, applied with a gold poltina coin (1777-1778) of Empress Catherine II, part-enamelled in translucent red, within a rose-cut diamond-set scroll border, struck with workmaster's initials, 56 standard, scratched inventory number 18812

Provenance

Purchased by Emperor Nicholas II on 21 March 1909 for 275 roubles.  The invoice from Fabergé reads, in Russian, 'Kovsh nephrite matte finished gold 1/2 rouble Catherine II 66 rose [diamonds]'.

Excellent, near perfect condition.
