Condition

Original canvas which is buckling slightly along the top edge. There is a small dent in the canvas with some associated paint loss just above the centre of the building on the right. Craquelure is present throughout the area of the sky and there are other scattered areas, mostly in the impasto. There are scattered areas of associated paint loss, notably in the sky. There are surface scratches in places, mostly along the bottom edge. There are faint stretcher bar marks, notably along the top edge. Pinholes are visible along the edges. There is a light layer of surface dirt. Inspection under UV light reveals no obvious signs of retouching. Held in a carved wooden frame with elements gilt in gold and silver leaf. Unexamined out of frame.
