Provenance

Ex coll. Marcel Louis Guérin (L. 1872b), sold his sale, Hôtel Drouot, Estampes du XIXe Siecle, Paris, 9 December 1921, lot 128, 11,400 Fr (Loys Delteil referenced as the expert and this lot cited in Lugt); acquired from the above by Maurice Gobin; with M. Knoedler, New York, circa 1930 

Condition

With wide margins, the papers brittle with light- and mount-staining, margins with some surface soiling and minor creasing, sheet edges with minor defects and a few repaired tears, remains of brown backing tape and associated adhesive at sheet edges verso (showing through at sheet edges recto), each unframed. Individual defects include: H. 283: with light brown staining on the matador's chest, in upper image at center and elsewhere in the margin, lower and right sheet edge re-attached by approx. 1.5cm, lower left corner re-attached (approx. 9 by 7cm). H. 284: lower sheet edge re-attached by approx. 12mm, a small horizontal tear in lower right margin. H. 285: with a horizontal crease running through the title, lower sheet edge re-attached by approx. 9mm. H. 286: with an un-inked vertical printer's crease extending through the center of the sheet, with repairs at top and bottom of this crease in the margin, a repaired tear in upper right margin (approx. 5cm), further small horizontal tears in right margin, a pencil sketch of a man (probably by a late 19th century hand) on the reverse, lower sheet edge re-attached by approx. 1.5cm.
