Etching, engraving and drypoint, circa 1649, a very good, atmospheric impression of the second (final) state, New Hollstein's second state (of four), before the Baillie re-work, printing with rich contrasts and traces of burr, a heavily inked impression (particularly in the dark area to the right of Christ and in the right foreground), on paper with a Strasbourg Lily watermark (Hinterding I-c-a), framed
Condition
With narrow margins, generally in good condition, a vertical paper split extending 13mm. from the lower sheet edge, the lower right sheet corner tip made-up, touched-in with printer's ink (?), a short, splitting crease at the upper sheet corner approx. 7mm. with a tiny associated loss at the very corner tip, the darkly etched areas to the right of rock-like shadow above Christ and on the camel's head and neck slightly abraded, causing a visual effect of whitish bloom, one or two tiny nicks at the extreme sheet edges, minor residual mounting at the upper reverse sheet edge, framed.
