the prints from the set trimmed on the platemarks or just outside the borderline, B. 217 trimmed on the platemark, all the prints generally in good condition, the prints from the set backed with laid paper (giving the impression that they are printed on thick laid paper), presumably the backing paper watermarked Escutcheon with Diagonal Stripe and the letters WR appended, surmounted by Fleur de Lys (Strauss refers to the Crowned Coat of Arms with Fleur de Lys in relation to the prints), a couple of plates with rippling and staining verso, a few plates with old tape adhered to the backing sheet protruding beyond the lower edge of the print recto, framed. Imperfections to individual sheets include: B. 100: with some surface losses on the figure's helmet, above the helmet, and to the inscription which appears to have been scratched out, further tiny spots of surface losses in the sky upper right B. 102: a pen and ink inscription along the lower edge of the print (a further pen and ink inscription on the backing paper verso) B. 96: the backing paper beginning to split apart from the print at the upper left reverse sheet corner B. 217: one or two smalls stains in the area of the inscription lower right, some paper thinning due to surface skinning verso
