Description

  • Harry Callahan
  • Chicago
  • gelatin silver print
signed in pencil in the margin, framed, a Pace/MacGill Gallery, New York, label on the reverse, 1949, printed later

Condition

This early, detailed contact print is in overall excellent condition. There is a tiny clamp impression from processing in the upper left margin and a tiny chip of the emulsion at the center left margin edge. Under very close inspection under raking light, there are a few deposits of original retouching. The following are written in an unidentified hand in pencil on the reverse: '750,' '701,' 'HC-27,' and 'HC' (twice). There is a small square area of adhesive residue and attendant soiling at the upper left and a small square abrasion at the upper right. When examined under ultraviolet light, this print does not appear to fluoresce.
