William J. Stillman

(London: F. S. Ellis, 1870), a book illustrated with 26 carbon prints of the Architecture and Environs of the Acropolis, comprising one small carbon print on the title and 25 larger carbon prints, most numbered and a few with the photographer's signature, caption, and/or date in the negative, mounted to a leaf, each with a leaf of accompanying text. A detailed report for each plate is beyond the scope of this condition report; those wishing condition reports on individual specific plates are welcome to contact the Photographs Department. The contents of the book are overall crisp, with foxing mostly affecting the text and plate leaves and not the carbon prints. There are small tears, losses, soiling, and occasional chipping along the edges of the leaves. Soiling from handling is evident on most of the leaves. The gutta percha spine adhesive has completely deteriorated so that the covers and contents of the volume are detached. The spine is lacking. The leather on the covers has some abrasions, losses, and soiling, and the corners are rubbed.
